Calls for proposals in quantum chip technology

The Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU) has launched two calls for quantum chips technologies, with a total Invesment of €65 million, as part of the Chips for Europe Initiative. These calls aim to strengthen Europe’s semiconductor capabilities, reduce dependency on external markets, and drive innovation in advanced quantum and semiconductor technology.

The first call focuses on the establishment of Framework Partnership Agreements for developing Quantim Chip Technology for Stability Pilots. These pilots are designed to enhance the durability and reliability of quantum chips in applications such as sensing, communication, and computing. Proposals should prioritise scalable, mature quantum platforms, such as superconducting, photonic, semiconducting, diamond-based, or neutral atom technologies, and integrate robust testing facilities to ensure a seamless transition from pilot  to industrial-scale manufacturing.

The second call seeks proposals to establish Framework Partnership Agreements for developing Quantum Chips Technology for for high-quality Trapped Ions,  leveraging European designs and fabrication capabilities. This call aims to enhance the availability of quantum technologies for computing, communication and sensing, and accelerate industrialisation and time-to market, resulting in a competitive advantage for the European trapped-ions chip ecosystem.

Overall, both calls will support groundbreaking research and move quantum chip manufacturing towards industrial-scale production, ultimately advancing Europe's capacities in quantum chips.

Interested applicants can find more information on the Chips JU Website and submit their proposals through the Funding and Tender Opportunities portal. The deadline for submissions is 21 January 2025 at 17:00 CET.
